Communicate your invention confidently to a live audience. Master the Elevator Pitch formula, deliver a live demonstration of your MakerBuddy, and celebrate your journey from beginner to IoT Innovator!

Theory: The Elevator Pitch

You Have 30 Seconds. Go!

Even the most brilliant invention is useless if you can't explain it to someone else. An Elevator Pitch is a short, clear speech that explains your idea in the time it takes to ride an elevator — about 30 seconds. It forces you to be simple, direct, and focused on the benefit, not the technical details.

The Perfect Pitch Formula

🙋 "Hi, my name is [Your Name].

😟 I noticed that [Target User] has a problem with [Problem].

🔧 So I built [Project Name] using my MakerBuddy kit.

🤖 It uses a [Sensor Name] to detect [Event / Condition], and then it automatically [Action] using the Rule Engine.

✅ This solves the problem because [Benefit]."

Example Pitch

"Hi, my name is Sara. I noticed that my family has a problem with forgetting to water our plants when we go on holiday. So I built the PlantGuard using my MakerBuddy. It uses a Soil Moisture sensor to detect when the soil gets too dry, and then it automatically turns on the Relay (water pump) and flashes the LED using the Rule Engine. This solves the problem because the plant waters itself — no one has to remember!"

For Teachers

Give students 10 minutes to write and rehearse their pitch using the formula above. Pair them up to practice on each other first — this dramatically reduces public speaking nerves! Remind students that judges are impressed by confidence and clarity, not technical jargon.

Activity: Setting Up Your Expo Station

It's showtime! Follow these steps to set up a professional-looking station:

  1. Clear Your Desk: Place the MakerBuddy in the centre. Tidy up cables neatly so visitors can see the components clearly.
  2. Place Your Info Card: Write your project name, your name, and one sentence explaining what it does. Put it next to the MakerBuddy.
  3. Power Up: Connect the USB cable. Confirm the MakerBuddy connects to its Wi-Fi access point and the Dashboard loads. Make sure your Rule Engine rules are saved and active.
  4. Do a Dry Run: Trigger the main rule yourself. Does everything work? If something is off, use the 4-step troubleshooting process from Week 31 to fix it quickly!
  5. Stand Ready: Stand next to your creation. When a visitor approaches, start your Elevator Pitch immediately, then show the live demo.
