Term 1 · Weeks 1–8

Understanding the ecosystem, electronics basics, digital inputs and controlling outputs. Each lesson includes its full classroom material, activity and challenge.

Assessment Objective

Show your Term 1 understanding by controlling the embedded LED, RGB LED and buzzer from the dashboard.

Term 1 Assessment: The Traffic Light

Week 8 Term 1 Assessment

What You Will Demonstrate

  • Identify onboard components and connector-based components.
  • Connect MakerBuddy to the dashboard and read a live input.
  • Set single-LED brightness using the slider.
  • Create red, yellow and green with the embedded RGB LED.
  • Use the embedded buzzer as an alert.
  • Explain Input → Process → Output in your own words.

Practical Task: Traffic Light Sequence

The LED, RGB LED and buzzer are already embedded and connected on the MakerBuddy IoT Board. No wiring is required.

  1. Set the RGB LED to red and wait three seconds.
  2. Set it to yellow and sound a short buzzer alert.
  3. Set it to green.
  4. Explain what each colour tells a road user.

Challenge

Design a safe crossing sequence on paper. Include when the buzzer should sound and why a yellow phase is useful before the light changes.
